Kauai County Release Records
There is no county sheriff jail on Kauai. The Kauai Police Department, or KPD, runs a short-duration detention center and central booking area. The Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, or DCR, operates Kauai Community Correctional Center, commonly called KCCC. A person can leave the KPD cellblock and enter KCCC, go to court, move to another agency, or return to the community. Only the last path is a community release.
The KPD Daily Media Arrest Report is the most useful local online record for the police stage. It lists an arrest date and time, report number, identity fields, arresting agency, offense information, and a release disposition. KCCC has no verified public roster or historical release list. DCR instead directs custody lookups to Hawaii Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification, delivered through VINE. A court docket can show the legal basis for release, while the custody agency remains the best source for the physical event.
Kauai Police Release Codes
KPD’s report uses compact codes, and those codes answer a vital question: did the person leave police custody for the community, or did custody continue elsewhere? Read the legend printed in the report. Do not infer release from the fact that the person no longer appears in a cellblock.
| Code | What the report indicates |
|---|---|
| RBL | Released after bail or bond. |
| RNC | Released with no charge. |
| RPC | Released after prosecution was declined. |
| RPI | Released pending investigation. |
| ROR | Released on the person’s own recognizance. |
| ISC | Movement to the Intake Service Center, not proof of freedom from all custody or supervision. |
| TOT | Turned over to another agency. |
| DC, CC, FC | Movement to District, Circuit, or Family Court. |
| Not Released | No release was shown when the daily report was generated. |
“Not Released” is time-bound. Later bail, court action, or transfer may occur after the report is produced. Likewise, TOT does not identify the receiving agency by itself. Follow a court code in eCourt Kokua and follow an ISC or KCCC path in VINE or a DCR record request.
What Kauai Release Records Show
No single Kauai record contains every detail. The police report describes the arrest episode and immediate disposition. A DCR movement record can identify admission, institution changes, physical release, and the category or destination of departure. A Judiciary file can show bail, recognizance, dismissal, sentence credit, probation, or another legal order. HPA records address minimum terms and parole decisions for prison sentences.
| Field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Full name and identifiers | Whether the record belongs to the intended person. |
| Report, booking, or case number | The exact police, custody, or court episode. |
| Admission or arrest time | When the custodial episode began. |
| Release or movement time | When the physical event was entered by the custodian. |
| Disposition or event label | Whether the event was release, transfer, court movement, parole, or discharge. |
| Releasing facility | Whether KPD, KCCC, or another institution held the person. |
| Destination category | Community, court, DCR institution, parole, or another agency, subject to privacy limits. |
| Court authority | The order or sentence basis connected to the release. |
Preserve the source’s exact words. Released, paroled, discharged, transferred, and time served are not interchangeable. Record both the event time and the report-generation time when available because data entry can lag behind the act.
Find Kauai County Released Inmates
Begin with the system that held the person. This avoids a common dead end: searching a current roster after the person has already departed. The local verification chain is short, but each link answers a different part of the question.
- For a KPD arrest, open the official KPD Arrest Log and select the PDF for the arrest date. Match the person, report number, and charge before reading the release disposition.
- If the disposition points to KCCC, ISC, or DCR, search the Hawaii VINE record by exact name or identifier. Read the location and custody-event language without translating a transfer into release.
- Search eCourt Kokua for the Fifth Circuit case. Read the docket in date order for bail, recognizance, dismissal, judgment, probation, revocation, or discharge filings.
- For a prison sentence, use VINE plus Hawaii Paroling Authority records. Parole means secure confinement ended, not that the sentence ended.
- If no online result supplies the needed history, request the existing release, admission, and movement records from KPD or DCR.
The Released Last 24 Hours page explains how to use one daily KPD report. It is not a rolling KCCC release feed.
Kauai Recent Release Search
Kauai does not publish a verified KCCC 24-hour list, 72-hour list, photo gallery, sheriff app, or live roster. KPD’s calendar-day Media Arrest Reports are the practical recent-event source. A current-day PDF is an arrest report, not a list limited to people who got out. It includes released people, people not yet released at report generation, and people moved to court or another custodian.
The report is usually generated around the early morning in the sampled filenames, but no guaranteed posting time was verified. It also does not show an exact release time. To review roughly three days, compare three consecutive PDFs and reconcile repeat entries or later changes. A formal KPD or DCR record is still needed when the precise event time or final destination matters.
The official source page is shown below because its date-based report links and code legend are central to a Kauai search.

Request Kauai Release Records
Choose the custodian before writing. KPD holds police arrest, central-booking, and cellblock records. DCR holds KCCC and state-prison admission, movement, and release records. The Judiciary holds filed case documents, while HPA holds parole and minimum-term material. One broad county request will not reach a state-operated KCCC record.
- Identify the person with full name, aliases, date range, facility, and any report, booking, or case number.
- Ask for “records sufficient to show” admission, facility movement, physical release date and time, release category or destination, and final discharge status.
- Request an electronic copy and ask for nonexempt portions if part of the record is withheld.
- Ask for an itemized estimate before chargeable work begins. Hawaii fees vary with search, review, segregation, copying, and format.
- For a photograph, add a separate request for the booking or admission photograph from the correct custodial episode.
The KPD Records Section requests enough detail to locate the report and says to allow 48 hours for an initial response while staff review confidentiality. That is not a promise of final production. Report-status questions may be directed to (808) 241-1929 or kpdinsurance@kauai.gov. The live page controls counter hours because temporary 2026 hours are not evergreen.
For KCCC, use the Hawaii Office of Information Practices model form and send it to DCR. Under HRS chapter 92F, agencies may withhold protected material but should segregate public portions when practical. Standard OIP guidance describes search at $2.50 per fifteen minutes and review or segregation at $5 per fifteen minutes, with the first $30 waived for an ordinary request. Ask for a current estimate before relying on those figures.
Kauai Court Release Verification
eCourt Kokua is the durable source for Kauai criminal case activity. Select the Fifth Circuit when the interface permits, use a complete case number when known, and confirm the court and party before opening docket entries. A bail order can precede actual payment. A dismissal may not remove another hold. The custody agency therefore confirms when the person physically left, while the court file explains legal authority.
Basic case information is free. Associated PDFs may cost $3 per document or ten cents per page, whichever is greater. Some documents may take up to three business days to appear. District Court criminal cases before August 2012 fall outside the stated online coverage, so older files may require the courthouse or a written request. HRS § 831-5 discharge material filed with the conviction court can be useful when the question is final sentence completion rather than an earlier jail exit.
Kauai VINE Release Lookup
Hawaii SAVIN, delivered through VINELink, provides custody information and optional notifications for participating correctional agencies. Search by exact name or ID, open the matching record, and read its current location and event terms. If a release appears, preserve the date and time exactly as shown and corroborate it through DCR, KCCC, or the court when the distinction is important.
A missing result is not a release certificate. Try reasonable name variants and identifiers, then request the record. VINE is also not a permanent historical DCR database, and no official public DCR field explicitly named “Projected Release Date” was verified. Notifications can lag, so an alert is not a guaranteed pickup time.
The official Hawaii search landing page illustrates the statewide route used for KCCC and prison custody.

Kauai Post-Release Records
Three local supervision tracks must remain separate. HPA makes parole decisions for prison sentences. The Judiciary’s Fifth Circuit administers probation. The Kauai Intake Service Center handles court-ordered pretrial or presentence supervised release. A person under any of these forms of supervision may be outside secure custody, but the legal status and responsible office differ.
No statewide public name search for ordinary parolees or probationers was substantiated. Use the case docket, the public HPA or DCR record, and the responsible office. A failed name search or missed contact is not proof that a person absconded or has a warrant.
Kauai Release Transition Programs
KCCC’s local role extends past jail intake. DCR identifies work furlough, Lifetime Stand, education, substance-use treatment, cultural arts, religious counseling, community service worklines, and a vegetable farm among its programs. Work furlough and other transition functions help explain why a KCCC record may concern a sentenced person nearing community return as well as a pretrial detainee. Program lists do not prove that any named person enrolled, completed a course, or received a release benefit.
For a specific person, rely on the custody movement and legal records. A program description cannot supply a release date, conditions, or final destination. The most useful practical questions concern the exact DCR event, the court or HPA authority, and which office now holds the public record.
Kauai Release Record Expungement
HRS § 831-3.2 governs qualifying non-conviction arrest expungement. Beginning July 1, 2025, Hawaii adopted a streamlined process in which an application through the Attorney General’s Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center addresses the expungement certificate and related court-record treatment. People whose certificates predate that change may still need the older step of sending a written request to the court.
Eligibility is fact-specific. The process does not generically erase convictions or every custody record. Expungement changes what official sources may disclose, so removed or sealed information should not be reconstructed from stale copies. Current HCJDC forms and Judiciary instructions control because fees, forms, and procedures can change.
Kauai County Release Facilities
The two local destinations serve different stages. The Kauai Police Department Detention Center is a short-duration cellblock and central-booking site. Its report can show community release, court movement, ISC/KCCC intake, or another-agency transfer. Kauai Community Correctional Center is a DCR facility with jail, transitional, and furlough functions. Its release or transfer requires DCR/VINE, court, and records confirmation.
DCR’s KCCC page is shown because it identifies the state operator and facility contact, which helps prevent the common mistake of treating KCCC as a sheriff-run jail.

Released or Still in Custody
Use the event and the custodian, not just a missing name.
| System | Best use | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| KPD Arrest Log | Police arrest episode and release disposition | Not a continuous roster or exact release-time record |
| Hawaii VINE | KCCC and DCR custody status or alerts | Not a complete permanent history |
| eCourt Kokua | Legal orders, sentence, probation, and discharge filings | An order may not equal the physical release moment |
| HPA record | Minimum term and parole action | Parole is not final discharge |
| BOP Locator | Federal custody and past release date | Does not cover KPD or KCCC |
| ICE ODLS | Current or recent immigration custody | No result does not prove community release |
